Welcome to the PJHS Guidance Department!

This is going to be a great year!  I am excited to meet all of our new 6th grade students and to continue to get to know our other students as well!  I will plan to visit each student in a large group setting (usually in the social studies or science class) once each month.  We will cover topics such as study skills, organization, bullying, respect, choices, careers, emotions, etc.  I try to plan an interactive and interesting guidance lesson so that the students enjoy the time we spend together and get something out of it.

I can conduct small groups as the need arises on topics such as anger management, social skills and self-esteem.  We have a grief group through Hospice of the Valley called "Friend to Friend".  This group meets once a month with any student who has experienced a recent death or loss within their family.  I can also meet with students on an individual basis when they need to talk, or if they are referred by a parent or teacher.

I facilitate many parent/teacher conferences during the year.  If you ever need to have an in-person conference with a teacher(s) please contact me and I can help get that set up.

I am also the Building Test Coordinator.  The 8th grade takes the Kuder Career Interest Inventory to explore their interests and areas of strengths.  This gives them insight into their skills, areas of interest and where they might want to focus their career goals. Grades 6-8 will be involved in the state ACT Aspire testing in the Spring(this testing replaces the old ARMT).  All grades also take the STI Assessment throughout the year to assess their baseline academic status, progress and benchmarks to learning goals.  I will put more information on the website and use school messenger to call parents prior to testing weeks.

The Guidance Counselor also assists with new student registration, withdrawals, transcripts and schedules.  I house the cumulative files with all of the students' academic history and information.  I am the RTI chair person and I coordinate 8th period (RTI/extra help) on block days.  If a child is struggling academically, they are referred to our PST (Problem Solving Team), where we decide how to provide support to the student in their area of concern.   We follow the RTI model for intervention and meet monthly to monitor students (Tier system).  I am also the 504 Coordinator and contact person for PJHS.  I coordinate Clubs and help in scheduling Open House.

But- bottom line- I am here for our Students.  I call them all my "kids" because I feel like we are all part of one family and we are all here for one another!  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions concerning your child.
